I adopt an agapeic approach to design, guided by my commitment as a designer and human to addressing the needs of others and promoting their interests (Hummels & Van Der Put, 2023). Agape – one of the four ancient Greek words for love – represents a commitment to concrete action for positive change aimed to benefit everyone. Achieving inclusive impact requires systemic analysis and the use of value sensitive design. As an agapeic and social designer, I strive to create safe environments for individuals to express themselves, grounded in the practice of radical listening. This approach enables participants to co-create solutions that reflect their voices and needs, supporting long-term social innovation.

The world is ever evolving. Cities, societies and economies are always transforming into new forms. Designers can envision a plurality of futures and have the responsibility to strive for the most durable and just future. As the perfect world does not exist, designers must not talk about solutions but opportunities and transformations. This requires constant reflection and adaptability, much like the critical and artistic work of design anthropologist Tina Lenz (n.d.).
